PLATTING QUESTIONS

Who pays for the extension of water and sewer mains?

The cost for extending water and sewer mains is borne by the developer.  The developer is responsible for extending these utilities to the far edge of the property, so that the next owner can carry the process forward.  The City may participate in the upsizing of a line to accommodate future development in the network, and as is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.

ZONING QUESTIONS

How can I get my zoning changed?  Do I just request it?

A property owner always has the right to request a rezoning for his or her property.  The proposed rezoning should be found to be consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.  After a public hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Commission makes a recommendation to the City Council.  The final decision whether or not to grant a rezoning is made by the City Council.  Check the procedure section for more detailed information.
