Juveniles & Minors

Court Requirements

State law requires an appearance before the judge for all cases involving juveniles and minors. Do not mail the fine payment to the court. Contact the Municipal Court at 940-872-4392 if you have any questions.

Definitions

  • Juveniles are defined as persons 16 years of age or younger. All juveniles are required to appear in open court accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The court will automatically mail notice of the date, time, and location for when to appear. The notice will be mailed to the address on the front of the citation that was issued to the juvenile or minor.
  • Minors are persons 21 years of age and younger on alcohol-related offenses and under 18 years of age on tobacco-related offenses. A minor is also required to appear in court with a parent or legal guardian if he or she is 18 years of age or younger and charged with an alcohol-related violation. The court will automatically mail notice of the date, time, and location for when to appear. The notice will be mailed to the address on the front of the citation that was issued to the juvenile or minor.

Note: Due to seating and court capacity concerns, all juvenile hearings are restricted to juvenile offenders and the offender’s parent of legal guardian unless additional seating is available. Younger siblings are permitted, but the court reserves the right to remove any child who is disruptive to the court proceedings.
